Excellent exhibition just opened at Hasuser and Wirth, London, Frank at 90. Two paintings by Sir Frank Bowling; ‘Hello Rosa New York’ (1971) and ‘Thanks to Water’ (2023-2024) separated by over fifty years. Both monumental paintings show his use of scale, colour and texture. Today I finally got to see the Jeffrey Gibson exhibition, Dreaming Of How It’s Meant To Be,at the Stephen Friedman Gallery in Cork Street, London. A feast of beautiful, saturated colours, the designs and shapes influenced to a large extent by his Native American heritage. For those of you living in or coming to London I highly recommend a visit. The exhibition ends on February 24. In April this year Jeffrey Gibson will represent the USA with a solo pavilion at the 60th Biennale di Venezia. 16 days since my knee operation and the day before it took place, I visited the Anthony Gormley exhibition at White Cube, Bermondsey. His interest in and artistic interpretation of the human body has been well documented by many art world professionals; what strikes me now is how this manifests itself in practical terms, he knows how things work and I now realise how we take things for granted. I had 32 staples removed from the wound this morning and was tempted to post a photograph, but in truth although fascinating (for me) it looks pretty gruesome. Anyway all on track and my next immediate goal is to be mobile enough on Christmas Day to cook the turkey! #anthonygormley #whitecubebermondsey #fullkneereplacement #thehumanbody go and see the exhibition, beautiful and thought provoking, do not miss the short film that documents his creative and structural process.
